Tracking Classes

Our Spring 8-week introductory tracking classes are scheduled to start in April, with the Tuesday evening class starting on April 13th at 6:15 p.m. and the Monday evening class starting on April 19th at 6:15 p.m.
Classes might run until dusk if necessary. A daytime class also would be a possibility if there is enough need. Class sizes are limited. Classes are held outdoors and will meet in the neighborhood of the MSU Pavilion off of Forest Rd. and Farm Lane. Detailed location information will be included in the confirmation of registration.

The AKC is considering a Tracking Dog Urban entry level test (www.akc.org/events/tracking/tdu.cfm). They are encouraging clubs to explore this. In keeping with this, the Tuesday class has been developed with more focus on the urban setting - especially short grass.

Lead instructors are: - Monday class: Irene Brett (517/882-8376)
- Tuesday class: Shirley Robertson (517/332-4194 or sjrcolando@aol.com)

They may be contacted if you have questions about their respective class. Marilyn Johnson also may be contacted about the classes and about enrollment at 517/256-7696 or MandM@cablespeed.com, e-mail being preferable at this time.

OTCGL enrollment forms are available at the club building or at www.otcgl.org. Class fees are $90.00 for non-members and $65.00 for club members. Enrollment forms, fees and a copy of current vaccination information may be mailed to Marilyn Johnson, 345 Linn Rd., Williamston, MI 48895 or registration may be completed on the first night of class IF space is still available.

You must also find an area where you can practice on your own during the week, which is not on the MSU campus. Only a limited number of students can be accommodated, although if there is enough interest, a daytime class may be added.

We will meet at the Tower Field (tall broadcasting towers on the site) on the north side of Forest Lane east of Farm Lane in East Lansing. The MSU Livestock Pavilion is nearby at the corner of Forest and Farm Lane.

Please bring proof of vaccination for each of the dogs.

A daytime class may also be formed if there is enough interest and a time can be arranged.

Pre-requisite: None. Dogs of all ages and breeds enjoy tracking. Puppies, especially, are likely to gain focus and confidence, while handlers learn more about their dog.

Cost: $90.00 for non-members and $65.00 for club members.

Time: Meet at 6:15 pm and run generally until sunset.

Day: Tuesday evening class starts on April 13th at 6:15 p.m. and the Monday evening class starts on April 19th at 6:15 p.m.
